This summer we have hired twenty neighborhood youth apprentices, ages 13 – 18, for the 2016 Green Team Summer apprenticeship.
The S-Line cohort of ten teens will be installing Phase I of a biodiversity corridor along the S-Line, behind the UF health campus, between Davis St. and Boulevard St. and just north of 12th St.
Components will be installation of several bioswales, rain gardens, and pollinator gardens.
The Urban AgriCULTURE cohort of ten teens will be focused on the elements of a sustainable food system – from growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, distributing, marketing, consuming, and disposing.
The Green Team will be designing and building a community garden on the Eastside. From soil testing to visioning to building and community outreach, the Green Team have been involved every step of the way this summer. Additionally, the Green Team will vend at the Jacksonville Public Market, launching September 10th, 2016!
