Building the Next Generation of Environmental Leaders

The Green Team Youth Corps is a year-round program for youth 13-18 that connects them to nature while empowering them to be advocates for themselves, their city and the environment. The program is divided into two sessions - the Fellowship (after school) and the Apprenticeship (summer). The Fellowship is offered during the school year and is open to all youth who attend Duval County schools. The Fellowship is an opportunity to earn community service hours while learning, participating and leading community service projects. The Apprenticeship is a 9 week paid summer program for youth who live, attend school or a place of worship in the zip codes 32202, 32204, 32206, 32208, 32209 and 32254. During the Apprenticeship, 22 youth work to complete various community-based projects that support the mission of Groundwork Jacksonville, and participate in enrichment programming.

Fellowship Activities

Fellowship activities are broken into three categories that identify the object for each activity: (1) Learn, (2) Serve, and (3) Lead.  Beginning February 3, 2020, there will be at least two activities to participate in each week.

Learn Activities

The objective for the LEARN activities is for Fellows to learn the base knowledge to support and complete a larger project to futher the mission of Groundwork Jacksonvile.

The SERVICE activities are opportunities for Green Team to put the ethos of stewardship into action. These activities will support Groundwork Jacksonville, as well as our partners in the community.

Leadership Activities

There are eight LEAD opportunities for Fellows to demonstrate their leadership skills as individuals and in teams. Many of these activities are a change for youth to learn about event planning and logistics.

Fellowship Incentives

Participating in the Green Team Fellowship will give youth a leg up on the competition during the interview process for the paid summer apprenticeship. Fellows are not guaranteed an interview but are more likely to be interviewed than candidates who do not have a relationship with Groundwork Jacksonville.

Based on attendance at the end of the 12-week program, Fellows will receive Green Team swag for 30%, 60%, and 80% completion.
